AN ALLOA pet owner and Layla, a two-year-old Grand Basset Griffon Vendeen, proved every dog does have its day after walking away with a top prize at Crufts.

Layla was one of 22,000 healthy, happy dogs at Birmingham’s NEC last week for the annual dog show, presented by the Kennel Club, and claimed the prestigious Best of Breed award.

Owner Pamela McGregor, of Pavilion View, fought off competition from a whole host of other dogs to scoop the coveted prize on Saturday (7 March).

And the 49-year-old was left overjoyed at Layla’s performance on day three of the world-famous Crufts in the West Midlands.

She said: “Layla is the first dog we bred and it feels amazing to win.

“I was not expecting it, we train very hard, but the competition is very tough, so to come out on top is great.

“This is my third time at Crufts and I just love coming here, it’s the ultimate place to compete so to win is unbelievable, I still can’t believe it.”
