A WOMAN is thought to have been left permanently disfigured following an alleged knife attack in Clackmannan last week.

The 35-year-old has been treated in hospital after being assaulted last Monday (22 June).

Though little detail is known of her current condition, it is believed her injuries were not life-threatening.

The incident was said to have taken place at an address on Zetland Street.

Police investigated the report of an assault and arrested a 27-year-old man.

He appeared in private at Alloa Sheriff Court on Thursday (25 June) and made no plea or declaration.

After the hearing, he was committed for further examination and was remanded in custody.

A police spokeswoman confirmed: “Police Scotland can confirm that a 27-year-old man has been arrested and charged in connection with assault to severe injury, permanent disfigurement and permanent impairment of 35-year-old woman.

“The incident occurred on Monday, 22 June, at an address in Zetland Street, Clackmannan. The man appeared at Alloa Sheriff Court on Thursday, 25 June.” The accused will re-appear at Alloa Sheriff Court tomorrow (2 July) for a full committal hearing.

Monday’s incident was the second domestic knife attack in the Wee County in a matter of days.

As reported in the Advertiser last week a 20-year-old man was arrested for allegedly carrying out a knife attack on a woman at a property in Sauchie on Sunday (21 June).

He appeared from custody at Alloa Sheriff Court last Monday with Sheriff Christopher Shead expressing his “surprise” that he was being prosecuted under summary proceedings and not under the more serious solemn framework.

In that instance, the accused was admitted to bail and will appear at Alloa Sheriff Court on 5 October.
