Alloa-based charity Home-Start Clackmannanshire opened their new office on Wednesday (June 24).

Provost of Clackmannanshire Tina Murphy was there to cut the ribbon at their Alloa Business Centre base on Whins Road, and to meet families the charity helps out.

She said: “Home-Start do a wonderful job giving a helping hand to families across the wee county. We all owe a big debt of thanks to their staff and volunteers.” Home-Start trains volunteers to do home visits to families who are in difficulties. The volunteers visit every week to lend a hand and give a bit of support.

Sylvie Dalley, chair of the charity, told those attending the opening ceremony that they need more volunteers: “We want to support more families with home visits, but to do so we need more people to help.

“We also need some more people to join the board of trustees. Our volunteers change people’s lives. If you want to give something back, this is a very rewarding way to do it.” Home visiting volunteers must commit to three or four hours per week, but at a time that is suitable to them. Volunteers are fully reimbursed for all expenses.

Wilma Wallace, who leads the staff team, asked anyone interested to get in touch. She commented: “We train our volunteers so they know how to help.

“The course takes about 40 hours, but we do it during school hours. If you would like to learn more, please pop by our sparkling new offices in the Alloa Business Centre or give the team a call on 01259 213453.”
