A trio of local cancer survivors have joined forces to raise awareness and vital funds for cancer research.

Rosa Macpherson, Helen Roxburgh and councillor Irene Hamilton have registered to take part in the Wee County Cancer Research UK’s fundraising group’s first ever Superhero Fun Run. The event is being organised in partnership with Clackmannanshire Council’s Sports Development Team and will take place at 11.30 on Sunday 30 August at Lornshill Stadium.

Rosa, founder and current chair of the Wee County CRUK, is a survivor of uterine cancer and, together with bowel cancer and NFI survivors Helen and Irene, wanted to give something back for the organisation that is devoted to saving more lives through finding new and better ways to beat the disease.

She said: “We want to show people that we have stood up to cancer, we’ve fought back, and life goes on.

“We want to help others survive by raising funds vital research funds and to show a positive attitude while we do so. We’re our own superheroes and we ask others in the Wee County to join us.

“Whether as a survivor or to honour someone heroic in your life help us fight cancer sooner and strengthen the work of the Wee County CRUK fundraising group. We’re always looking for new members or just one-off support for our events.” At the fun run, participants will walk or run two miles, equivalent to eight8 laps around the stadium. Those taking part will donate £5 to register and are encouraged to raise money through sponsorship.

There will be a prize for the best dressed superhero and the local Tesco supermarket donated bottles of water to keep participants hydrated.
