A local fundraiser is taking the fight against cancer both to heart and to mind in an effort to raise money towards more support.

Dana McQuater (19) will undertake the Brave the Shave challenge – an initiative brought forward by Macmillan Cancer Support – on Sunday 30 August at Alloa’s Ludgate Church at 3pm.

She is aiming to realise cash to provide more support for families affected by the disease.

Fiona Gibson has been tasked with shaving off Dana’s hair, which will be donated to make a wig for a cancer sufferer.

Speaking of the challenge Dana said: “My pop died of cancer and a few other family members are suffering from it now.

“I am really excited as all the people who have donated has helped and encouraged me through this. And as more people say nice things to me about it, it just helps strengthen my decision to do it.

“Everyone is welcome to come along to the Alloa Ludgate Church to see me get my hair shaved.” More than £500 has already been raised through sponsor sheets and online donations for the cause bringing her closer to her £600 target.

Dana added: “I put a sponsor sheet up at work and then put a giving page on Facebook; as well as a sponsor sheet round family. I’m overwhelmed and so grateful for all the support and donations; it means so much.” To make a donation go to https://bravetheshave.org.uk/shavers/dana-mcquater/.
