THE sixth year at Alva Academy is already gearing up for their annual MacMillan coffee morning on Friday, September 25.
During the summer holidays they started their sponsored events. One group took part in the Parent Trap Obstacle Course at Knockhill and, despite being soaked, enjoyed the day all in a good cause.
Last weekend pupils bag packed at Asda in Alloa and raised more than £1400.
Also on September 5, Emily Downes in S6 organised a duck race in Tillicoultry.
With help from the Tillicoultry Scouts and their families, this was a great success. Some Scouts also achieved their Pioneer badge using their knotting skills to dam the burn beforehand.
Corrie McGregor released all 500 ducks at 12.30pm and in the sunshine the gathered pupils, staff and parents followed them down the burn.
The winning ducks were: 1, 175, Mr Wilson from Tillicoultry; 2, 14, Mrs Driver from Alva Academy; 3, 174, Mrs Wilson from Tillicoultry.
More than £950 was raised.
The next day a group of pupils and staff took part in the annual Pedal For Scotland Challenge, cycling 50 miles from Glasgow to Edinburgh.
There are many other group sponsored events planned, such as Ben Nevis climbs, sponsored walks, football matches and half marathons to name a few. A group of pupils will also ‘Brave the Shave’ by shaving their hair for Macmillan.

As mentioned, the coffee morning is on September, 25. The local community is welcome to the coffee morning, between 10am and noon, with tickets, priced £2, available at the door.
If anyone would like to donate tombola prizes or raffle prizes please hand in to the school reception or email CLsfinn@glow.sch.uk and arrangements can be made for them to be collected.
