TILLICOULTRY Primary School"s PE teacher Eleanor McGlashan has made a splash by winning a national award.
Eleanor received the services to sport award from the Scottish Association of Local Sports Councils (SALSC) for her work as a swimming coach and PE teacher.
She has been a swimming coach for the Falkirk-based Otters Swimming Club for 23 years and, at the award ceremony in Falkirk Town Hall, she also received the Falkirk Sports Council services to coaching award.
Eleanor said, 'I was delighted to receive the award from Falkirk Sports Council and really surprised when SALSC announced and awarded me their services to sport award. It is quite an honour and has taken a while for it to sink in.'
Eleanor has been a primary PE teacher in Clackmannanshire for many years and was instrumental in helping to set up the council"s primary PE project.
She used to visit up to eight schools per year, but is now based in Tillicoultry Primary.
Eleanor has worked closely with the Sports Development Team to help shape the current provision and is a key official at local swimming galas.
She"s a member of Clackmannan-shire Council"s Primary PE Team which delivers two PE sessions every week for all pupils, helping to increase their fitness, confidence and skill levels.
Councillor Bobby McGill, the council"s spokesperson for sport, said, 'I am very pleased that Eleanor has received this national award which, considering the work she does both in and outwith our schools, is really well deserved.
'I"m sure this will also highlight the benefits to our pupils of having the support of someone so committed to their field.'
Carol Leddy, headteacher of Tillicoultry Primary, added, 'Eleanor is a key member of our school team. Her enthusiasm for all aspects of PE energises pupils, staff and parents and makes them want to do more.
'She finds time to make every pupil feel special and runs extra activities in the morning, at lunchtime and after school. Eleanor has been instrumental in the school organising so many annual special events, such as a skipathon for the British Heart Foundation and a Health and Wellbeing Week.
'We are very lucky to have her at Tillicoultry Primary, and I know her range of activities contribute to the academic and general success of the school.'
