Reports S2 Reports will be issued on Thursday 6 March. Course Choice Booklets and forms will accompany reports. S4 Interim reports will be issued on the same day.

S2 Parents’ Evening This will take place on Thursday 13 March from 4.30pm to 7pm.

School Day Consultation Parents, staff and pupils have now received details of the proposals for changes to the Lornshill School day. In tutorial, staff and House Council representatives are leading discussion with pupils and completing questionnaires. Mrs Floyd presented the proposals for change to the Parent Council on Thursday 27 February and information booklets have been sent to all homes with details of return dates. The new timetable plans are for August 2014.

House Assemblies Niamh Campbell and Kirsty Clarkson of S6 gave presentations to all three House Assemblies last week. The subject was their visit to Auschwitz at the end of last year. This was a very poignant presentation, with all audiences transfixed by the words and images presented to them. Sincere thanks to both Niamh and Kirsty for tackling a very difficult subject in such a sensitive and informative manner.

Lothian Equal Access Programme for Schools (LEAPS).

A large number of S3 pupils received another presentation from the LEAPS team on Tuesday 4 March when the group visited The University of Stirling. The programme is designed to encourage university applications by giving pupils details of life as a university student and by encouraging them to set goals and to plan for the future.

Alloa Burns Club Annual Competition As mentioned in last week’s Academy Notes, this prestigious event was held at Lornshill on Monday 24 February. Lornshill students competed against students from Alloa and Alva Academies with Lornshill students taking the first two places. Sarah Kerr of S5 was winner, singing Burns’s famous love song ‘My Love is Like A Red, Red Rose’ and Robyn Jervis Murray was placed second, singing ‘Thou Has Left Me Ever, Jamie’. Charlie Chernouski from Alloa Academy was third, singing ‘Auld Lang Syne’. Congratulations to the prizewinners and very well done to all competitors. Thanks also to the Rotary Club for their work with this event. A photograph will appear in a future Academy Notes.

Forth Valley Dance Competition Junior and senior Lornshill teams took part in this event on Monday 3 and Tuesday 4 March. At time of going to press the results were not known but will be announced as soon as possible.

Theatre Trip The Drama Department took 40 students to see ‘The Glasgow Girls’ at the Citizens’ Theatre on Tuesday 4 March. A student’s Review of the production will appear next week.

Sports Fixtures The Lornshill badminton team competed for the Senior Badminton Quaich at Ravenscraig in Motherwell on Tuesday 4 March. The basketball team will compete at Alva Academy on Wednesday 5 March and on Tuesday 11 March at Stirling High School. Lornshill will compete in the Regional Cross Country Championships at Cochrane Park, Alva on Friday 7 March.

Sports Results Lornshill basketball players won 59-24 against Bannockburn High School on Thursday 27 February.

School Uniform At this time of year we are reminding pupils that they should be wearing shirt, tie and school blazer. The weather is (hopefully) improving so we can get back to blazers for all.
