YOUNGSTERS from two primary schools in Alloa will be safer on the roads thanks to a local optician.

Pupils from St Bernadette’s and Banchory primary schools were presented with high visibility vests by staff from Specsavers Alloa on Thursday 20 February.

Tendai Ndoro, manager of the Alloa High Street store, was thrilled to donate almost 80 vests to the two schools.

He said, “As part of our national commitment to ensuring drivers and pedestrians stay safe on the roads, we’re delighted to play our part in helping children in our local community keep safe.

‘It’s vital that children make sure they are as visible as possible to drivers, especially during the winter months. Conditions are increasingly bad on the roads so it’s more important than ever for youngsters to be safe and be seen.

‘The vests can be used for travelling to and from the school, as well as walking bus schemes or even class outings.” Specsavers is heavily involved in trying to spread the road safety message. Its Drive Safe campaign aims to remind drivers to keep themselves and others safe by ensuring they have regular eye checks.
