TWO local high school pupils are to joining athletes and fellow students from across Scotland for a national event next week aimed at encouraging physical activity and participation in sport, writes Michelle Henderson.

Alloa Academy students Renee Young and Becky Preston Cuningham will be part of a group of 150 pupils, aged between 11-16 years, who will be in attendance at the Be Your Personal Best event near Glasgow on 15 May.

The event has been organised by the charity Winning Scotland Foundation and will give the young students an insight into the experiences of some of Scotland’s top athletes, including, Scottish woman’s football captain Gemma Fay and Paralympic wheelchair tennis competitor Kevin Simpson.

Morag Arnot, Executive Director of the Winning Scotland Foundation commented, “Our aim at this event is to inspire more young people from all parts of the Scotland, including Clackmannanshire, to believe that they can achieve their personal best.

“We want youngsters o believe that no matter who they are, where they’re from or what their interests are, they have the capacity to succeess in whatever they choose to do by working hard and learning from mistakes.”
