LUCK was a lady for Dollar Academy pupils as they hit the stage with Guys and Dolls.

The school’s summer production featured an all-star cast as they brought the Broadway smash to life.

Iain Leggat (S5) was masterful as the hugely charismatic Sky Masterson, delivering the tricky New York drawl exceptionally well. Sarah Everington’s (S6) portrayal of the Sally Army’s tormented Sarah was brought to life by her lovely soprano vocals.

Fiona Keith’s (S6) delightfully feisty Adelaide was equally remarkable, while Ben Collins (S5) as Nathan Detroit, Cameron Grounds (S6) as Benny Southstreet and Finlay Balfour (S3) as Nicely Nicely Johnson were the most comically feckless of the would-be craps players.

Further commendation was given to the pupils who worked backstage on the set design and build, costumes, make-up, sound and lighting, and, of course, the band itself whose live playing provided the musical foundation for the whole show.

Choreographer Mrs Robb (APT of physical education), Mrs Timney (music teacher) and Mrs Fitzpatrick (head of music and musical director of the show) were also praised for their help.

A Dollar Academy spokeswoman said, “All must be thanked and congratulated for the incredible time and effort invested over the past many weeks.”
