DOLLAR Academy pupils visited an outdoor arts installation last month.

Prep 1 students set off into the forest at Jupiter Artland two weeks ago where they learnt a great deal about the world of art. Outfitted in wellies and waterproofs and fuelled by great excitement the pupils took a walk around the scenic estate of Bonnington House.

The sculpture park set up around the 80 acre estate near Edinburgh showcases the work of various artists who were given the freedom to express themselves in the landscape. Miss Moffat, Prep 1 teacher, thought the trip was a great success saying: “The children went home, very excited to share their new adventures and new ideas with their mums and dads.” In the morning the children took a tour to explore the artwork and sculptures which are placed in interesting and provocative ways. In particular they studied an artist called Andy Goldsworthy and the way he works with natural materials.

In the afternoon, the youngsters became artists and worked towards creating outdoor artwork.

The collection and exhibitions at Jupiter Artland are now closed for 2014 and only remain open by appointment for educational visits and private bookings.

Jupiter Artland’s mission is to get every school child in Scotland visit or experience the unique outdoor installation.
