SENIOR pupils have recently returned from a six day residential camp run by Cycling Scotland and funded by Transport Scotland.

Alloa Academy was chosen to attend after presenting ideas for encouraging pupils to use cycling as a way to get to and from school and stay active. It helped them develop their passion for cycling into an action plan to be implemented within the school.

Students were supported by experts and experienced tutors and enjoyed cycling-based activities and challenges, such as training to deliver Bikeability Scotland sessions, a one-day cycle maintenance course and a Go MTB (mountain bike) riding skills day.

Pupils also had workshop activities to create a business action plan for their ideas, a course in event management and each school also took home a small funding grant from Cycling Scotland to help them implement their cycling promotion strategies.

Two pupils were also able to achieve their full Cycle Trainer Assistant qualification.
