Earlier this month, junior debaters from Dollar Academy successfully competed at the annual Glenalmond Cup in Perthshire.

Four teams took part in the debate with two earning the top places at the event, which was held on 1 February.

Two teams consisting of Ellen Paden and Kirsty Galloway along with Harry McIntosh and Caitlin Dow (all FI) both took second place in both preliminary rounds. Mr McFadyean, head of world studies and debating coach, said: “They were unlucky not to make the final an all-Dollar affair.” Team B of Gracie Shearer and Dominic McGinley (both FI) were victorious in the final, proposing the motion that: “This house would make it compulsory for all school leavers to spend one year doing community service.” Team C of Lucy McKenzie and Iona Kelly (also both FI) earned second place in the final relegating the teams of Craigclowan and Clifton Hall to the minor positions.
