Two pupils from St Modan’s High School are preparing for a trip to India this July, where they will work alongside volunteers to build houses for ‘makeshift families’.

With other people in the Lesallian Project, Kaitlyn Bell (17) and Michael McCabe are raising funds required for their five-week trip to Tamil Nadu in India.

They will be constructing a place to live for women who have had to leave their homes, and orphaned children who will be put in their care.

Kaitlyn, a former St Bernadette’s Primary School student, told the Advertiser that she heard of the project from a fellow pupil and thought it was a great idea.

She said: “I’m having a race night on 6 March in order to help raise the £1450 required to go on the trip.

“It starts at 7pm and takes place at the King Robert Hotel. Three races have already been sponsored by Rhona McCallum’s Hairdressing, Bar Aldo’s and The King Robert Hotel.

“The last race of the night will be auctioned off at the event with an amazing prize: a table of 6 at the King Robert Hotel for their 80’s tribute night worth over £150.” Anyone wishing to sponsor a race or learn more should call 07896 989993.
