Youths from Dunblane and Alloa took part in the Boys’ Brigade’s annual drill competition at Alva Academy on Friday night (27 March).

There were two competitions. The Braveheart Trophy is designed to be a challenge for boys who are relatively new to squad drill, while the long-established Central Region Drill Trophy is advanced for older, more experienced boys.

The Boys’ Brigade was founded with drill as one of its main principles to give a sense of discipline and teamwork and its value is still very clear today, almost 132 years later.

The routines require much rehearsal, precision, memory skills, control and, of course, teamwork, as a squad of six, nine or 12 boys complete a series of manoeuvres in quick time, slow time and stationary.

The boys are to be congratulated for their hard work and attention to detail and external adjudicators from Falkirk & District Battalion were impressed with their commitment to the competition.

25th Stirling (Dunblane) were the winners of the Braveheart Trophy, while 26th Stirling (Alloa) took home the Central Region Trophy.
