The Alva Illuminations will return next month – 10 years since it was first re-established.

The biennial event, which lights up the glen in the Hillfoots town, will take place on Saturday, 13 September from 7pm-9pm.

The previous show in 2012 saw around 5000 people turn out to witness the spectacle.

Organisers, the Alva Glen Heritage Trust, plan to go ‘back to basics’ at this year’s event, with fewer street performers.

Volunteer, Claire Templeton, said, “The Illuminations have got bigger and bigger over the last ten years, with more entertainment and stalls each year. This year we are returning to our roots, with a low-key family-orientated event.” Entry is free and there will be the face painting, tombola, glow in the dark merchandise and traditional musicians as well as an ice cream van and hot food van.

The trust is currently appealing for volunteers to help at the event.

Sandra Cashmore, Illuminations organiser, added, “We can only run the Illuminations if enough people help. We are looking for volunteers to either give us an hour on the night – selling glow in the dark merchandise or shaking a donation bucket – or during the afternoon to set up gazebos.” If anyone is able to help please contact Sandra onsandra.cashmore@btinternet.com or Claire at claire83a@aol.com
