A MENSTRIE woman will take on a bold challenge for charity this weekend.

Gillian Maclean is gearing up to have her hair shaved off to raise money for Cancer Research UK, transforming her long style into a cropped, ‘number two’ haircut.

After seeing a photograph of a celebrity, the 27-year-old was inspired to try out a new trend.

She then decided to go one further, by organising a fundraiser and committing to a radical style.

She explained: “I saw a picture of Kelly Osbourne. She had half of her head done [shaved] and I thought it was really awesome and I fancied a change.

“I was actually only wanting half of my head done, but I was told I would be sponsored more money if I got the whole lot done.” Gillian will undergo the change at B&M in Alloa, where she works, on Saturday (25 April) at noon.

She has already trebled her original fundraising target, and is currently sitting at £300, but is keen for people to go along and show their support on the day.

Although a little nervous about what lies ahead, she reckons it’s all for a good cause.

She said: “The public can expect a brave but scared person having their head shaved and after all the excitement they can grab a bargain.” Gillian, who has taken part in the annual Race for Life in previous years, is keen to raise awareness of the national charity she is fund-raising for, saying that cancer is a huge issue and much more research needs to be done.

She explained her motivation: “The event is important as I have had grandparents die from cancer and both my mum and sister have had scares. Cancer is still such a huge thing and more needs to be done to save lives.”
