A retirement dinner took place at the Dunmar Hotel on Friday to mark the departure of six long serving Alva Academy staff, who have amassed a total of 113 years service at the school.

Depute rectors Sandy Donoghue (20 years) and Ian Ash (22 years), faculty PT of sport and home economics Hamish Scott (11 years), PT pupil support and biology teacher Una Nicholson (22 years), geography teacher Peter Gentleman with an astonishing 38 years at Alva and Linda McCann in home economics (10 years) all said farewell.

To mark the occasion Farzana Manzoor, also a home economics teacher at the school, made a cake, with relevant figures of each person. These were presented to the retirees, along with their presentation gifts after some humorous, but heartfelt speeches.

All staff and pupils at Alva wish the super six all the very best for the future and they will all be so sorely missed at the school.
