A TODDLER recently took on the challenge of climbing Dumyat to raise funds for earthquake victims in Nepal.

Murray Walker (2) and parents Michael Walker and Louise Huggan, as well as grandparents Geoff and Evelyn Huggan, managed to reach the 418m (1371ft) summit earlier in June raising £563.50 for the charity Himalayan Trust UK.

Proud mother Louise told the Advertiser: “I decided to fundraise when I heard of the second earthquake that hit Nepal.

“I felt I had to do something to help those poor people. Murray has always enjoyed the outdoors and family walks so I thought it would be the perfect idea for him to climb Dumyat.

“I was amazed and overwhelmed at the support he got from family and friends and work colleagues. He managed to raise £563.50, which went to the charity Himalayan Trust UK, which will help so many people in Nepal.” The family, all of whom had a great day out, walked over four miles to reach the iconic view at the windy hilltop.

The South Asian country of Nepal suffered two devastating quakes recently, one in April and one in May.

Thousands have lost their lives, more were left injured and many lost their homes in the natural disaster.

Louise added: “I was so proud of Murray walking all the way up. He was scrambling on the rocks at some point and he was so happy when we reached the top. Maybe that was because he got his cheese sandwiches though.

“I would like to thank everyone who took the time to donate to help the victims of the Nepal earthquakes and support Murray on his climb.”
