HEARTFELT tributes have been paid to tragic Alva man Craig Logie who was killed following an altercation in Stirling last week.

The 36-year-old died in hospital on Saturday, just hours after he was caught up in an alleged assault on Friars Street in Stirling early on Friday morning.

Craig’s family have since spoke about their terrible loss and said they were left devastated by the news that he had passed away.

Details of the incident itself are unknown, but it is thought Craig suffered a serious head injury following an incident involving three other men.

A 55-year-old man also suffered a “serious leg injury” while two men from Tyneside in England have since been charged with culpable homicide.

A statement, realised through Police Scotland this week, read: “The family of Craig Logie is devastated at his death.

“Craig was a much-loved husband, son, brother and friend. He will be greatly missed.

“It is requested that the family’s privacy is respected at this time.” Investigators also offered their sympathies to the family and made an appeal to members of the public for information regarding the incident.

Detective Inspector Rory Hamilton said: “Our sincere condolences go to Craig’s family and friends at this very sad time.

“Inquiries into the full circumstances surrounding this incident are still ongoing.

“We are asking anyone with information that can help us with our inquiries to please contact police.” Police were called out to Friars Street in regards to a disturbance at around 12.20am on Friday morning.

The following day, they released a statement which said that two men had been taken to hospital.

It is believed Craig suffered a serious head injury during the altercation and was rushed to the Western General in Edinburgh.

Officers then detained a 26-year-old and 27-year-old following their initial investigations and later put strict cordons in place.

The street remained sealed off on Friday morning as crime scene officers arrived and carried out a forensic search of the area.

And on Saturday police issued a statement confirming that Craig had died as a result of his injuries.

On Monday, Shaun McCarthy (27), from North Shields, and Jamie Spendiff (26), from Cullercoats, both appeared at Stirling Sheriff Court, charged with culpable homicide.

Mr Spendiff, who holds a black belt in judo and is an amateur boxer, is also charged with assault to severe injury.

Defence agents acting on behalf of the two accused made no plea or declaration and both were released on bail.

Following news of his death, many took to social media to pay tributes to Craig, who was a popular man around Clackmannanshire and Stirling.

One man posted on the Forth Valley Police Facebook page: “Such a big shock to a small community ... you will never be forgotten. [There is] not a person I know with a bad word to say about you, bud.” One woman spoke about her memories of Craig and said: “[He had] a smile that couldn’t lighten up even the darkest of rooms. He had undeniable talents, charm, charisma and wit. Evidently loved and lived for his beautiful wife ... my thoughts are with you.” One of his co-workers described him as “A real jem [sic] of a guy” while another mourner wrote: “... He was such a nice guy it had lots to live for.” Anyone with any information regarding this incident is urged to call police on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
