AN ELDERLY Alva woman’s phone and purse were stolen from her hands in a snatch-and-grab on the streets last week.

The thief made a run for it as a witness gave chase following the incident on Stirling Street.

Police are seeking information to catch the culprit, described as a white male, aged between 20 and 30.

He is around six ft tall, with a slim build and short dark hair.

The man was wearing a blue hooded top and matching trousers with white stripes.

The incident happened last Tuesday, April 17, at around 5pm.

Following a shopping trip to the local Co-op, the elderly woman was walking home on the north side of Stirling Street.

As she walked along, she took her mobile phone and purse out from her bag to check them.

It was at this point that the man appeared, ran past her and grabbed both items.

He then ran off into nearby Queen Street, with a witness giving chase.

They lost sight of the thief in the Park Street area.

Officers are appealing for information in a bid to catch the culprit.
