Alloa's Kenny Wilson is continuing his training for a trek up Africa's highest peak - Mount Kilimanjaro - for Asthma UK. His latest blog covers a walk up Meall nan Tarmachan by Killin.

Drive out though Killin (A827) and take the road off to your left signed for the National Trust for Scotland Visitor Centre (closed) where there is parking. This road can be impassable in winter as it doesn't get gritted so be careful.

Park just past the main car park near a metal gate, cross this and follow the tarmac road for 300 yards and turn right. This path leads up to a gate in the deer fence cross this and then follow the ridge northwest up a small summit which hides the real summit.

Continue over this and descending to a stile over the deer fence, start climbing up a steep gully which was filled with snow and ice the day we climbed. Be warned this is a steep climb: crampons and ice axe required.

Once you have reached the top of this steep section the path leading to a short walk in a horseshoe to the summit of Tarmachan.

This is where my blog stops as we decided to return and walk the ridge another day, but the views we got were amazing with Ben Lawers and its 3 sisters one way and a clear views along the ridge and out towards Lochearnhead the other. If you have have never walked a Munro ridge before this is a great one to get you hooked.
