A Clackmannan woman who was renowned for her dedication to the town’s people passed away last Thursday (15 January) aged 83.

Residents paid tribute to Davina Armstrong for her involvement in the community, whilst many residents took to social media to show their appreciation.

For many years Davina worked tirelessly to make a difference raising funds for a variety of charities. She contributed much to the Boy’s Brigade, the Anchor Boys, Clackmannan Senior Citizens, the Community Council and the Church. She was also nominated for Clackmannanshire Citizen of the Year twice.

One poster on Facebook, Tricia Loudon, wrote: “Been reading all the lovely comments everyone has said about Davina. Its overwhelming how well respected she is, but certainly not surprising. She was definitely one of a kind and I know I’ll never know anyone like her again.

“She’s the only person I know who was given respect from anyone she spoke to, even the wee cheeky mouthpieces of the times would never ever disrespect her. She treated everyone equally and had time for anyone.” She called Davina a “true inspiration” highlighting the impact she had on youngsters. Tricia continued: “I have so much to thank her for and we will miss her terribly. We will never forget her though and take comfort knowing she’s left a little part of herself in us all.” Agnes Neeson wrote: “I have lived in Clackmannan for 22 years and Davina was the first person to say hello to me when I popped up to the co-op for milk. Ever since then she never walked past without a smile and hello or a peek in the pram, chat to the kids etc. all to a total stranger, I can only think how lucky her family and friends are to have know her.

“As I read all the messages I couldn’t help, but think we should do something to represent Davina for ever in the community she loved.” Jack Flower wrote: “Davina was one of the kindest people I knew when growing up. She was always good-natured and always looked after us, even when we were causing mischief.

“Whether she was helping run the Anchor boys, or whether we were helping her with a Saturday cake stall, it was always great to see her. Thank you Davina, you will be sorely missed! Xx” Davina’s funeral will take place on Friday 30 January 11 am at Clackmannan Parish Church. Family flowers only, donations in lieu of flowers of desired to Alzheimer Scotland.
