Three new walking routes have been created in Clackmannan, inspired by the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games.

Members of Clackmannan Development Trust (CDT) have mapped out Bronze (15mins), Silver (30 mins) and Gold (60 mins) walking routes around the village.

It is part of Ramblers Scotland Medal Routes project which encourages walkers to map three short circular walking routes that start and finish at the same location.

The Clackmannan walks will be available in leaflet form from Clackmannan CAP and The CDT Hub at Clackmannan Town Hall and on the walking charity’s Medal Routes mobile App.

The routes will be officially launched on Sunday (24 August) at 3pm in Clackmannan Town Hall.

Kelly Sagar, chairperson of Wee County Walkers which tested out the routes for the CDT, said, “This is a good idea which helps to promote a healthy lifestyle in the community. Individuals can enjoy the Medal Route walks on their own, or with a group – happy walking.” To coincide with the launch, the CDT has organised a treasure trail beginning at the town hall from 1pm-4pm. Teams with a maximum six people (children must be accompanied by an adult) can take part.

Cost is £5 per team and, in keeping with the Commonwealth Games theme, the clues will lead the lucky winners to the Gold Medal and the first prize of £60, with other prizes to be won.

Isla Molloy, Clackmannan Development Trustee, said, “We are really looking forward to the Treasure Hunt on Sunday, and the entries are coming in well, but the more the merrier and any teams who are thinking about participating please contact the CDT via Facebook or by emailing clackdevtrust@hotmail.com.”
