THE Wee County will be able to celebrate this weekend as the traditional Mercat Fayre will make its much-anticipated return to Clackmannan.

Funded by the Big Lottery and ASDA – the event will take place on Saturday, June 3, between noon and 4pm along the town's historic Main Street.

With its medieval theme, the fayre will boast an array of entertainment, food, craft, music and more.

There will be more than 30 trader stalls, live music, a magician, and fire eater as well as a juggler and a bouncy castle.

In addition, guests can also take in the falconry display, get their face painted, or participate in the heritage treasure hunt or view the bicentenary display.

What's more is the fayre will also see the first ever Great Clackmannan Bake Off along with Guided Tours of 14th Century Clackmannan Tower by Historic Environment Scotland.

Lesley Shaw, community development officer, said: "The Mercat Fayre has sorely been missed in the town and this was highlighted in the Community Action Plan 2015-2020 to host once again.

"I am delighted that we were able to secure funding to make this event happen and bring the community together to celebrate. Almost all of the attractions are free.

"We would love to see locals, visitors and stall holders come in traditional dress to add to the atmosphere."

The bake off competition will take place from 12.30 in Clackmannan Town Hall, judges will be: Nora Gilfillan from Tilly Tearoom and Jenni Bone from Thistle Do Icely.

An entry form can be picked up from Clackmannan Development Trust office in the town hall or by emailing lshaw_cdt@outlook.com. Entry forms must be returned by Thursday, June 1.

Guided Tours of Clackmannan Tower will run every hour, on the hour between Noon and 3pm. They are limited to 16 people therefore pre-booking is advised to avoid disappointment.
