AN OPEN day will be held at Clackmannan Community Garden this weekend.

People will be able to drop in and discuss how they would like to see the patch of land behind Clackmannan Town Hall developed.

Unused for around 12 years, a project has been launched to turn the space into somewhere for the community.

Clackmannan Development Trust (CDT) received funding to help kickstart the initiative and views of local residents were sought earlier this year.

And on Saturday, October 21, they will be able to drop in and find out a bit more.

Margaret Schofield, volunteer and CDT member, said: "We are looking forward to meeting everyone in the Craigrie Room that overlooks the town hall garden.

"The project is just starting, so we don't have paths yet, and the ground can be muddy and slippery unless you are wearing boots.

"This is a chance to see what has been achieved so far, enjoy a cup of tea or coffee and help us develop this neglected, secluded garden."

At the weekend people will be able to put their names forward if they would like to get involved.

They can also find out if they have particular skills or expertise to offer, such as ideas, encouragement, time, help with growing seedlings or providing plants, IT/social media skills.

Visit the Craigrie Room in the town hall from 11am to 2pm where refreshments will be available.

There will be opportunities for everyone to look at the plot, wellington boots recommended, discuss the layout and planting of the garden.

A space for the whole community, the hope is to cater for a wide range of groups and interests, from toddlers, under 5s and nursery school pupils to beginners and seasoned gardeners.

Since being awarded a £1000 grant by Central Scotland Green Network in July, volunteers have been hard at work in the garden.

They also welcomed a visit from Maria Coxon who works with Trellis, a support organisation for therapeutic gardening.

She gave volunteers useful guidance and contacts, such such as The Toolshed Initiative at HMP Edinburgh which donated refurbished garden tools.
