A CLACKMANNAN man has denied driving dangerously towards a lollipop woman as she was helping kids cross the road outside a Wee County primary school.

The man was due to go on trial on Tuesday, May 22, but his lawyer, Robert Smith, told Alloa Sheriff Court on Monday that he had not yet been in receipt of legal aid so could not progress his case.

It is alleged that the 34-year-old man, of Craigrie Terrace, drove the car on September 28 of last year despite not having a valid driver’s licence or insurance.

The charges against him also state that he, while on Lochies Road, drove dangerously towards the school crossing patrol officer causing his vehicle to strike the traffic control sign that the woman was holding at the time.

Sheriff Simon Collins queried with Mr Smith why it is taking so long to obtain legal aid, replying that he has been asking for the extra documentation for several months now to no avail.

The case will call again on August 13 with a new trial date of August 21.
