THE Wee County will host some free family events as part of the mini-festival set up by the Inner Forth Landscape Initiative (IFLI)

Throughout this month, organisers will look to bring communities together in an effort to take advantage of the natural environment around Clacks, Stirling, Falkirk and Fife.

On Saturday, June 23, the RSPB Black Devon Wetlands Nature Reserve in Alloa will host a get together for afternoon tea.

It is part of the UK-wide Great Get-Together event, which involves visitors exploring the area before enjoying a refreshment with the team between 2-6pm.

And the following day, Sunday, June 24, families can head along to King George V Playing Fields in Clackmannan for a family fair.

The event runs from 11am to 4pm and there will be the chance to try ancient crafts, historic re-enactments, medieval music, puppets, tours inside the tower which is usually closed to the public, and guided walks to the Wetlands.

Sue Walker, of the IFLI, said: "As an HLF funded landscape partnership scheme, our role over the last four years has been to reconnect people with their local landscape and heritage, inspire a sense of pride in that landscape, and work to make the area better for wildlife and people.

“The events we are planning aim to celebrate the natural, cultural and historic heritage of the Inner Forth, and what’s been achieved over those four years.

“We really hope lots of local people come out to join us and help us celebrate this amazing landscape at the heart of Scotland.”

Elsewhere, visitors can enjoy some midsummer magic at Kinneil Estate on Tuesday, June 19, from 7-9pm, with a self-guided walk and costumed performers who will highlight the woodlands, wildflower meadows and historic buildings through song, dance, acrobatics and fire.

Also planned is a cruise up the river from South Queensferry on board the Maid of the Forth on Wednesday, June 20, 6-9pm. This event is fully booked, but a waiting listing is available.
