FOLLOWING the latest sculpture to be unveiled it may be apt for Clackmannanshire to change its motto to 'Look at the roondaboots aboot ye'.

Artist Andy Scott's fifth piece of work to go on show in the Wee County adds to the number of local roundabouts with sculptures or pieces of art on them.

The eye-catching work entitled 'This Journey's End' stands on the Mary Wood roundabout on the edge of Clackmannan welcoming drivers to the county.

The sculpture features a man and woman reaching out across a gap to join hands.

Andy told the Advertiser, "Where it is sited is a gateway and it is based on the idea of the Clackmannanshire Bridge.

Coat of arms

"I have been working on it for seven to eight months. The male figure is holding a crown to signify the crown from Clackmannanshire's coat of arms and the female has stars representing the EU.

"I hope it is as popular as the other ones I have done in Clackmannanshire."

Portfolio holder for Sustainability, councillor Eddie Carrick, said the sculpture was a beautiful addition to the other art works in the county.

He added, "We, as an administration, some years ago decided we wanted to show people the difference from leaving Stirling or Falkirk.

Icing on the cake

"We wanted the roundabouts to show a difference and this is the icing on the cake as far as I am concerned."

Mr Carrick continued, "It welcomes you to the county and says your journey is at an end.

"We are saying come and visit and look at what we have to offer. This is a credit to the people of Clackmannanshire - you would have to go into Europe to see this sort of art anywhere else."

Dick Clark, chair of the Clackmannan Society, said, "This is what we have been working towards.

"We have been in consultation with Councillor Carrick in support of having something significant coming from the bridge."
