Muckhart Primary’s green-fingered gardeners came up roses in this year’s Clackmannanshire in Bloom competition.

The pupils scooped the top prize of Best Overall Garden and won the School Garden Project category.

Headteacher Lesley McGlinchie said, “The whole school is delighted to have received this accolade for our garden, which the children have been involved in planning and developing, and which is now a lovely learning space for all pupils to enjoy.

“We’re very grateful to parents Mel Rafferty and Susan Stephen who have led the project, and who now hold a regular gardening club for the pupils which they very much enjoy.” The council-run comp was open to everyone across the Wee County - from tenants and private home owners to local communities, schools, businesses and allotment holders.

Entrants were judged on the general appearance and layout of their garden, the utilisation of plant material, the standard of cultivation and maintenance, and their care for the wildlife and environment.

Awards ranged from best floral containers, allotment and commercial grounds to chief vegetable garden and community project.
