A NEW mobile facility to help young people in the local area was rolled out earlier this month.

The mobile youth space, shared by Clackmannanshire and Stirling Councils, operates from a custom-built van bringing a new outreach service to all local communities.

Its programme targets young people who socialise in streets and parks.

Including facilities such as internet access, games consoles and youth information resources, the van is staffed by the council’s youth workers. It provides a safe environment and activities for young people as the nights get darker.

This new form of mobile youth work is highly flexible in its operations and could prove to be an extremely useful resource for those who don’t use traditional, building-based youth provisions.

Youngsters were consulted about the types of activities and opportunities the mobile service offers, and the results formed the basis of the programme that aims to offer something different every week.

This week, youngsters can learn about the issues surrounding alcohol and drugs “in a fun way”. Next week is tie-dyeing and the week after is music making night.

The service operates 5-8pm Monday to Wednesday at various locations: Monday – Alloa Shillinghill, Greenfield Park and West End Park. Tuesday – Sauchie, Tullibody and Clackmannan. Wednesday – Menstrie, Alva and Tillicoultry.
