Works on the popular path between Tillicoultry and Dollar are under way, the laying of a new tarmac surface is expected to finish by the end of November.
Clackmannanshire Council secured £100,000 of funding for the project earlier this year and matched that with its own spending to provide a £200,000 face lift.
A two-and-a-half metre wide surface is being laid to replace the old, uneven path. Contractor JH Civil Engineering started its work in September, and the new surface is expected to be in place by the end of next month.
As well as the new surface, improvements to the drainage system, new pipes and further culvert work are needed.
Invasive vegetation will also be dealt with before a greening project takes place next year.
The new 4.5km path will also be suitable for the disabled, and it is a continuation of the National Cycle Network route 767.
