Mother involved in £6000 benefit fraud
A TULLIBODY mother appeared at Alloa Sheriff Court for illegally claiming more than £6000 in benefits.
Charmaine Thomson (35) made the claims after suffering a slipped disc at work.
She told the department for work and pensions (DWP) that she was living alone in her application for council tax, housing benefits and income support.
However from January 2010 her employed partner started living with her and she failed to informed the DWP of the change.
Claims officers became suspicious and investigated her circumstances.
Thomson, of Glenkinchie, pled guilty on Thursday to fraudulently claiming £6240 in benefits between 3 January and 31 October 2010.
Robert Smith, defending, said prior to January 2010 his client was living on her own.
He explained, "She had been employed but stopped working because of a slipped disc. Up until her new partner moved in, and between January and the end of October, she did not notify the department of any changes in circumstances."
Mr Smith added that Thomson was now working and had set up a direct debit to pay off the money.
Sheriff David Mackie deferred sentence for four months for verification of the repayment scheme.
