A PRIMARY school teacher is to stand trial accused of sexually assaulting two young boys 20 years ago.

Caven Muirhead (55), who is currently suspended from teaching at the school where he works in Clackmannanshire, faces a string of charges against the boys.

He is said to have abused the boys for years at a time, when they were aged between 11 and 14, from 1989 and 1996.

He faces allegations of using "lewd, indecent and libidinous practises and behaviour" at various addresses over the seven years, including at his home in Clackmannanshire, in a caravan, and at a campsite, in either Lossiemouth, Moray or Aberfoyle, Perthshire.

He is also said to have abused one of the boys between May 1992 and May 1996 at an "unknown location within the Sheriffdom of Tayside, Central and Fife".

Muirhead, of Jamieson Gardens, Tillicoultry, denies the five charges of indecency. They include one allegation that he induced one of the 11 year old boys to "watch a pornographic video in his presence".

Muirhead is to appear at Stirling Sheriff Court for a first diet on August 27, before standing trial on 10 September.

A Clackmannanshire Council spokeswoman said yesterday (Tuesday), "We were made aware of the allegations against a member of staff in February 2010. The individual was suspended at this time."
