A MENSTRIE mum accused of assaulting her children walked free from court after the Crown dropped the charges.

The woman, who cannot be named to protect the identity of her kids, maintained a plea of not guilty throughout the trial to acting in a menacing manner at home on 6 February 2014.

The mother denied causing fear and alarm by shouting and issuing threats towards her children, striking one on the head and seizing their clothes to their injury, and grabbing another by the wrist and pushing them on the body..

On Wednesday (19 March) at Alloa Sheriff Court, procurator fiscal depute Alison Montgomery dropped the charges after one of the children took to the stand.

During their testimony the youngster claimed the accused grabbed them by the wrist in an effort to get them to bed, called one child “an accident” and additionally said she never wanted kids.

However, as the youngster was unable to corroborate the alleged assault of a sibling the Crown abandoned the case.

While giving evidence the child said they really liked staying with their mum, adding, “I wish this whole thing never happened and it was all back to normal.”
