A YOUNG man who hurled racist abuse at a woman was spared punishment for apologising.
On Thursday (10 July) at Alloa Sheriff Court, Liam Sutherland (20) was admonished for acting in a racially aggravated manner at Woodside Terrace in Clackmannan on 20 June 2014.
Sutherland was reportedly drunk during his outburst and later wrote a letter of apology to his victim, stating that he meant no disrespect to the woman or her family.
Sheriff Derek O’Carroll acknowledged that Sutherland, of Clackmannan’s Kirk Wynd, apologised in “very clear and appropriate terms”.
He told the 20-year-old, “I’m sure you won’t do this again.”
