DOUGLAS A young man has been banged up for eight months for attacking his cousin.

On Thursday (17 July) fiscal depute Susannah Hutchison told Alloa Sheriff Court on 31 August 2013 a group of friends had been drinking and socialising at an address in the town when an argument arose between Fraser Douglas (24) and a relative.

The complainer left the party, but was followed by Douglas onto Dirleton Gardens and punched off his bicycle, whereby he hit the ground and lost consciousness for a time.

Thereafter Douglas, of Alloa’s Smithfield Loan, repeatedly kicked his victim on the head. The complainer managed to get to his feet at one point, but was knocked back down with a punch.

The accused was told to stop by a witness, who then called the police.

The complainer suffered swelling to the face and lips, had blood coming from his nose and mouth, and had to spend time in the short-stay ward at Forth Valley Royal Hospital for his injuries.

Sheriff Fleming deliberated over lunch, returning to jail Douglas for eight months from when he was taken into custody on 24 June.

CALLANDER A man with a history of violence has been warned that jail will be waiting for him if he returns to the dock.

On Thursday (17 July) fiscal depute Susannah Hutchison told Alloa Sheriff Court that William Callander (56) conducted himself in an aggressive manner at a house in the town’s Arran Court on 27 November 2013.

Callander reportedly pointed his finger at a woman and threatened, “I’m warning you, you know what to expect”, during an argument that escalated after he found out she’d read one of his online private messages.

A friend of the woman telephoned at the time of the barney and could hear Callander shouting and swearing, prompting her to phone the police.

Defending, Gary Munro said the argument simply got out of hand.

Sheriff Fleming said he did not like the fact that Callander, of Tillicoultry’s Upper Mill Street, had assaulted the same woman in the past.

He sentenced the 56-year-old to a Community Payback Order with two years supervision and a conduct requirement to attend The Caledonian System – a programme for domestic abuse – but cautioned Callander that another incident will land him behind bars.

A day earlier, she nicked a bank card from an address in Mull Court, Alloa, and then stole £100 from an ATM at Clackmannan Co-operative store on 10 July 2013.

She also lifted a Post Office bank card from an address in Clackmannan’s Castle Street at some point between 28 October 2013 and 4 November 2013, and then used the card to steal £150 from an ATM at Sauchie Post Office on 4 November 2014.
