A man caught with less than £5 worth of cannabis was left counting the cost of his crime.

On Thursday (31 July) fiscal depute Ann Orr told Alloa Sheriff Court that police were on a routine patrol when they spotted two people within a vehicle at Dumyat Business Park in Tullibody on 4 January 2013.

When talking to the occupants of the motor the officers got a strong whiff of the Class B controlled drug.

A search was carried out and Ronald Gillespie (46) was found to be in possession of cannabis resin and herbal cannabis.

When detained, Gillespie admitted it was for his personal use and got it from a “boy in Glasgow”.

Defending, Robert Smith claimed that the cannabis was worth less than £5.

He stated that Gillespie, of Forthvale in Menstrie, does not keep in good health and possibly has bladder cancer.

Sheriff David Mackie accepted that the quantity of drugs involved was slight, but was an offence none-the-less and fined the 46-year-old £100.
