A PREGNANT mother of three has been warned to expect jail time if she fails to adhere to the provisions of a community payback order.

Cheryl Quinn (23), of Earls Court, Alloa, pleaded guilty at Alloa Sheriff Court on Thursday (October 23) to a breach of her previous sentence.

On 19 September 2012, Quinn was given an order to complete 240 hours of unpaid work but had failed to do any.

Her sentence came after an incident on 29 October 2011 in which she grabbed another women by the hair, threw her to the ground and repeatedly kicked her on the head.

The court heard this offence represented Quinn’s fourth assault charge in space of two years.

Claire McCarron, defending, asked the court to consider Quinn’s current family situation as reasons to extend the community payback order.

She said: “Ms Quinn has three young children, which has been a problem in carrying out the unpaid work.

“She has also had a difficult upbringing and has admits to excessive alcohol consumption.

“However, she has not offended since the incident and has been concentrating on bringing up her children while significantly reducing her alcohol intake.

“There has also been a change in her attitude and the way she conducts herself. Imprisonment at this time would have a devastating impact on her three small children and she is currently expecting her fourth child at present.” Sheriff Kenneth McGowan handed Quinn a reprieve but added that failure to comply would see her sent to Cornton Vale.

He said: “The order was first imposed as an alternative to custody.

“It came after you committed a fourth assault in two years and it was a serious assault.

“This is your last chance,” he added. “I will extend the order but there had better be a glowing report when this case is reviewed in one month’s time.

“If not I will pull the plug and you will go to Cornton Vale – children, pregnant or not. It’s not a threat, it is a promise.

“I cannot make it any clearer; if you do not comply with this order then you will go to jail.” Quinn is due to reappear on 20 November this year.
