A FISHCROSS man caught in possession of three different drugs has been given a fine at Alloa Sheriff Court last week.

Hugh Young (38), of Brandyhill, admitted to carrying just over £90 worth of drugs when stopped by officers at Shillinghill on March 17, 2014.

He appeared before Sheriff Raymond McMenamin at Alloa Sheriff Court on Thursday (4 December) on three charges of possession.

Young had £50 worth of amphetamines, £40 of heroin and a small quantity of cannabis resin, valued at £1.50, when he was searched.

He admitted the charges of possessing controlled substances and has been ordered to pay a total of £260, reduced from £390 due to his early plea.

Before sentencing, Young’s lawyer Virgil Crawford told the court his client has made strides forward in dealing with both his drug habits and his offending.

He said: “Mr Young is on a methadone prescription at the moment and he has stabilised.

“There is no currently not ongoing drug difficulties and his last drugs conviction was in 2007.

“He has also been engaging with drug workers to address his problems.” Before handing down his judgment, Sheriff McMenamin said: “In spite of your lengthy record and the fact there were three different drug types in your possession on this occasion, I am going to impose a fine.

“But I must say, if you return to the court on drug offences again in the future then you will not be treated so lightly.” Young was given a fine of £100, down from £150, for possession of heroin, as well as an £80 fine down from £120 in respect of the two other charges of possession cannabis resin and amphetamines.

In total, he will have to pay £260 at £10 a fortnight.
