A SAUCHIE mother has been told to carry out unpaid work after pleading guilty to claiming unentitled benefits.

Sally Jackson (42), from Posthill, was convicted of failing to inform the Department of Work and Pensions of a change in her circumstances which she knew would affect her claim to housing benefit and income support benefit.

She was found to have received £4,520.55 in unentitled benefits from 1 April 2013 to 24 November 2013.

Jackson will now begin a programme to pay back the money as well as completing a total of 60 hours of unpaid work.

She appeared at Alloa Sheriff Court on Thursday (19 February) for sentencing.

Sheriff Gillian Wade said: “I have considered carefully the recommendations of the reports that have been prepared on your behalf.

“You still have a substantial sum to payback and that will take some time. I am not minded to impose a further financial penalty so I feel a community payback order would be more appropriate.

“Therefore, you are to undertake 60 hours of unpaid, and that is reduced from 90 hours to take account of your early plea.

“If you do not comply with this order, you will simply be brought back to court where another sentence can be imposed.”
