The 22-year-old was charged with assaulting the man following an altercation at The Inn on 16 March 2014.
He is alleged to have repeatedly hit him on the head with a glass during the incident.
The accused pleaded not guilty to the charge when he appeared at Alloa Sheriff Court on Monday (23 February).
His defence agent also tendered a special defence of self defence during this week’s hearing.
A trial date has been set for 9 March.
