A TULLIBODY mother has admitted assaulting two police officers who had been trying to trace the person who had attacked her.

Lauren Ballantyne (26) appeared at Alloa Sheriff Court on Monday (2 March) where she tendered a guilty plea to the two offences.

A not guilty plea with regards to separate statutory breach of the peace charge was accepted by the Crown.

Ballantyne lashed out at the cops outside her home on 29 November 2014 as they were questioning her about an earlier incident.

Depute fiscal Marie-Claire Chaffey said: “Police were called to a disturbance and arrived to find the accused with a bleeding nose.

“However, they found she was unwilling to co-operate with them when they tried to make enquiries.

“She then walked off and officers followed her along the road.

“While they were talking, she swing her arms and hit one of the officers on the head. She then punched another officer on her head.” Ballantyne’s defence agent told the court she served as a carer for her mother and that she had been deeply ‘embarrassed and apologetic about her actions’.

Sheriff Gillian Wade then ruled that she carry out 30 hours of unpaid work.

She said: “I take account of all that has been said on your behalf.

“Not only do you have a child but you are also a carer for your mother, and I also note that you are a first offender and pled guilty at the earliest opportunity.

“On that basis, I feel the best way to deal with this offence is with a community payback order with an unpaid work requirement.

“You will be required to carry out 30 hours of unpaid work, and this is reduced from 45 hours to take account of your early plea.”
