AN ABERDEEN woman remains behind bars this week after she admitted trying to bring contraband into HMP Glenochil.

Julie Davidson (33), of Moir Drive, tendered a plea of guilty at Alloa Sheriff Court on Monday (23 March) — just minutes before she was scheduled to go to trial on the matter.

On 2 November 2013, within the waiting room of the Clacks prison, she tried to pass a mobile phone SIM card and 15 Buprenorphine tablets to her boyfriend.

However, the guards on duty spotted the ‘package’ and she was detained.

Davidson had initially been facing a charge of being concerned in the supply of the Class C drug but the Crown later accepted they were for personal use only.

She also admitted a separate offence of failing to appear at Alloa Sheriff Court on 12 August 2014.

Elaine Buist, defending, told the court that her client has been on remand for the incident since 23 February.

She said: “This offence took place when Ms Davidson was at a low point in her life; her partner was in prison and she was struggling with drugs herself.

“That being said, she seems to be in a much better place now.

“She has also been spending her time in prison in a positive manner and has made contact with social work in the hopes of having support in place if and when she is liberated.

“However, she is also aware that she may well be looking at a period in prison as a result of this conviction.” Sheriff David Mackie then said to Davidson: “You are quite right, this type of offence would commonly attract a custodial sentence.

“But before I decide the sentence, I would like to obtain reports. This is simply to see if there is a more constructive way of disposing of this case.

“In the meantime, you will be remanded in custody.” Davidson will return to Alloa Sheriff Court on 16 April.
