Three assault cases said to have taken place at HMP Glenochil were heard at Alloa Sheriff Court this week.

Complaints, one of which involved an attack on a prison warder, were heard before Sheriff Richard McFarlane on Monday (30 March).

None of the prisoners concerned appeared in the dock and submitted their pleas to the court by courier.

These incidents come to court just days after police were called out to the prison following concerns of a prisoner assault on a guard.

This week, the court heard the case of one Glenochil inmate who was charged with assaulting a man on 28 January 2015.

He is accused of scalding the man with boiling hot water before striking him with a piece of wood to his injury.

The 46-year-old denied the charged by letter during the hearing and a trial date has been set down for 9 June.

Meanwhile, a Barlinnie inmate has denied assaulting and racially-abusing a prison officer while he was serving time at Glenochil.

He is accused of acting in an abusive manner on 3 Feburary 2015 and uttering racist remarks.

He is then alleged to have attacked the warder by spitting on his head and biting him to the hand to his injury.

The 35-year-old also pleaded not guilty by letter on Monday and the case has been scheduled for trial on 9 June.

Also, another prisoner has been charged with assault during an incident at the jail last year.

The 27-year-old is accused of punching a man on the body on 8 November 2014.

His case has been continued until next month for his personal appearance at Alloa Sheriff Court.

Finally, another Glenochil inmate has been charged with being in possession of a mobile telephone.

On 17 January 2015, he was allegedly caught in possession of the prohibited item while inside the Clacks jail.

After being brought up on charges, the 39-year-old asked the court to continue the case without plea and the case will call again on April 13.
