A CLACKMANNAN man has been given a second driving ban after admitting driving while disqualified and without insurance.

Alistair Morris was said to have ‘no regard’ for the rules of the road when he appeared at Alloa Sheriff Court on Thursday (23 April).

He had previous been handed a four-year driving ban and only narrowly avoided a jail sentence last week.

Instead, he was handed a three-year ban and ordered to carry out unpaid work in the community.

The court heard that on 22 March 2015, Morris (30) was stopped near the Kilbagie Roundabout where it was discovered he was driving without a valid license or insurance.

His defence agent Alistair Burleigh spoke of his family and business commitments before pleading with the court to keep him out of jail.

His submissions proved enough to convince Sheriff Gillian Wade but she warned him that if he failed to comply with the court order he would serve a prison term.

She said: “I had been minded to impose a period in custody for this offence but I feel this sentence would harm others more than you.

“You appear to have no regard whatsoever for the court orders or road traffic laws, and that is wholly unacceptable.

“If you breach any of these orders then the court will have no choice than to remand you in custody.” The sheriff then told Morris, of Main Street, that he would carry out 250 hours of unpaid work over the course of the next 12 months.

She also said he would remain subject to supervision for two years and he would be disqualified for three.
