THE Alloa TV Siege case is scheduled to go to trial later this month, with three of the four accused appearing in court yesterday (Tuesday).

Kirsty Taylor (18), Ryan Douglas (23) and Carla Ann Gruar (17) maintained their pleas of not guilty during a brief pre-trial hearing at Alloa Sheriff Court.

The fourth accused, Liam Young (26), was “in transit” when the case called but his not guilty plea was recorded and the hearing proceeded in his absence.

The allegations relate to an alleged stand-off between police and the accused at Pine Grove in Alloa on 5 January 2015.

Young is charged with operating a stereo or speakers – thought to be a TV – “so as to give another person reasonable excuse for annoyance” and fail to desist when asked by police.

Both Young and Taylor are charged with assaulting a police officer by repeatedly striking a window in the knowledge he was standing behind, whereby the window broke and he was struck by broken glass, to his injury.

The complaint details an alternative charge, that Young and Taylor culpably and recklessly repeatedly strike the window while the officer was standing behind it, causing him to get struck with flying glass to his injury.

Meanwhile, all four are alleged to have behaved in a threatening or abusive manner in that they did repeatedly shout, swear, brandish household items and utter threats of violence to police officers, threaten to harm themselves and brandish broken glass.

Teenager Gruar is further charged with struggling violently with police officers, while Taylor faces added allegations of assaulting an officer by spitting on him and did repeatedly threaten officers with violence while in a vehicle travelling between Pine Grove and Falkirk Police Station.

The case is due to be heard before a jury at Alloa Sheriff Court on the week beginning June 30.

However, due to the volume of court business set down for that sitting, the case is likely to be pushed back for later in the year.
