AN ALLOA man has denied attacking his partner with a knife during an incident in Sauchie last weekend.

The 20-year-old was arrested on Sunday and taken into custody by police.

He appeared at Alloa Sheriff Court on Monday (22 June) and tendered a plea of not guilty to the assault.

Although the woman is said to have been struck with the weapon, the Advertiser understands she did not sustain life-threatening injuries.

A Police Scotland spokeswoman said: “We can confirm that a 20-year-old man has been arrested and charged with an assault.

“The incident occurred on Sunday, June 21, in Hallpark, Sauchie. The man appeared at Alloa Sheriff Court on Monday.” The accused appeared from custody this week charged with seizing the woman by the neck, compressing same and restricting her breathing, before “striking her on the body with a knife” to her injury.

The incident was said to have taken place at a property in Sauchie on 21 June.

The accused’s defence team applied for bail on his behalf, though it was initially opposed by the crown.

Sheriff Christopher Shead – who had intitially expressed his “suprise” that the charges were not being pursued under indictment procedures – then agreed to the defence motion.

The accused was then released under special conditions not to contact the complainer or enter her home street.

A trial date has been set down for 5 October of this year, with a further hearing scheduled for 28 September.
