DOLLAR will be alive with the sound of music when Opera On A Shoestring hits the Hillfoots town.

It is the next concert in the Music in Dollar season and in a change to the usual Saturday evening slot, the small, independent, professional company will perform in the Gibson Hall, Dollar Academy, on Sunday 18 January at 2pm.

With a long record of critical acclaim and delighted audiences, the Glasgow-based group performs to the highest standards and the concert will include works selected from a broad range of composers such as Bellini, Puccini, Britten, Offenbach, Mozart, Weber, Weill, Rossini, Wagner, Bizet, Handel, Delibes and Gershwin.

Julian Reeves from Dollar Music Society said: “They may be called Opera On A Shoestring, but there’s nothing penny-pinching about the quality of their performances.

“This concert should be perfect for people who enjoy opera’s ‘greatest hits’, and for those who haven’t been to a full-scale production and would like to experience for the first time some of the wonderful and well-known music written for opera.

“And we’ve moved the concert from its traditional Saturday evening slot to Sunday afternoon to make it easier for people to come along, rather than having to brave a cold winter’s night.” Doors open at 1.30pm and tickets for the concert are just £10 per adult, available on the door, while accompanied children are admitted free.

Members of Dollar Music Society receive a substantial discount on tickets for all the season’s concerts and membership costs just £5 per person.
